Some of you who read this blog entry may have heard about the international ThinkQuest competition, run by Oracle. It’s been around for a few years with a lot of it’s popularity being in the States.
In 2006, I was a member of one of the first few teams from the UK who ever completed an entry. In 2007 I entered again and our team won the 19 & under category.
Following is a blog post from Dave Thomson, one of the people who first brought Thinkquest to my attention and is trying to encourage it to become more popular in the UK,
Until 2006 the UK never had an entry into the International ThinkQuest Competition. Thinkquest is a competition but one that is almost unique in the world. Students are asked to create web sites covering topics that interest them.
They work in teams, sometimes from across the world and collaborate to create these sites drawing on any expertise they can locate. The sites are totally student created with an adult to act as mentor or guide.
I promoted ThinkQuest to an online community within an e-learning project known as the Virtual Workspace not knowing how students would react. Two teams appeared out of the ether with students drawing in potential team members from within the 18 thousand or so learners within the community. Lee’s team had a number of challenges to overcome in the six month journey for the project. They completed the work and ended up publishing a site on Nanotechnology which is now in the competition library. The team that put the project together were from totally different schools. They never met until they went on a trip to London paid for by Oracle, sponsors of the ThinkQuest competition.
On the coach journey back they began planning their 2007 entry which won the 14 to 19 category in the UK version of the ThinkQuest competition having chosen the topic – Water.
The potential of online communities and that of project based learning really came home to me as a result of this work but don’t listen to me listen to Lee on the ThinkQuest Podcast.

Look at this brand new website by apple, just released now, looks sweet!
One of my favourite bits is the new search box which looks very cool and helps with the typical “Apple Look” that’s now obvious through the whole site.

I am happy to report that the new site is now live! On it you will find a wealth of new information for both Advertisers and Posties. I want to give a huge shout out to everyone from Marketing, Dev and CL. This was a major undertaking.
I personally think the new site looks very nice, an improvement on one which was already very good.
There seems to be a lot more information available to posties and advertisers which is always good!

Depending on your point of view, the original Pandora.com was either a fun retro homage to iTunes circa 1998, or maybe the best use of Khaki on the Internet — or maybe your view is that it has a face that only a mother could love. Well, tonight we’ve pulled the covers off an entirely new Pandora.com. One that lets us tell the story of Pandora Everywhere while delivering a more compelling, more beautiful experience on the web. Hope you enjoy it!
Pandora: New Pandora Website
I have to say, this new website looks very cool – a huge improvement on the old one that did look a little dated!

With .eu domains being released today (Friday 7th), people rushed to purchase the domain they wanted.
The registration became open to the public after a 4 month period where firms could reserve domains which linked to their trademarks.
By late afternoon 236,573 registrations had been made by british registrants, with Germany leading with 237,928 registrations.
There were many people and companies after the same domain, with them being given on a first come first served basis is the end.
It looks like it could lead to a lot of trading in domains and some people profiting quite a bit.
