Muppet Mobile Lab appearing at Epcot for a trial run
Keep your eyes and ears open while visiting Epcot the next few weeks. Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker are have been spotted around Future World in their new Muppet Mobile Lab.The lab is there for a few weeks of testing. It’s unknown whether it will move on or become a permanent part of one of Disney’s Orlando parks.

Disney’s High School Musical 2 Smashes Records
Disney seems to have hit a winner with it’s High School Musical. The success of the first film seemed to catch them off guard, with them rushing to get elements of it into it’s theme parks very quickly in order to cash in on the success. These were then slowly sorted out and became a more polished feature within the parks.
Now they’re hitting success again with the second movie as High School Musical 2 set a record for the most watched basic cable broadcast ever. 17.2 million people tuned in to see if Troy and Gabriella would stay together and exactly how bad Sharpay could be.
The Premiere for High School Musical 2 was held at the Disneyland Resort. They distributed the following video podcast of the event:

Haunted Mansion Closure Poll Results
One of the big refurbishments happening at Disney World currently is at The Haunted Mansion.
But was during the busy summer period the ideal time to close it? We asked you this question and these were the results:
It looks like most people did feel that it was the ideal time to make the changes. Now we just need to wait for the Haunted Mansion to re-open. I will of course make more posts as more details come through.

Disney-MGM Studios Renamed Disney’s Hollyood Studios
So long, Disney-MGM Studios. In a widely anticipated move, Walt Disney World is renaming its movies-oriented theme park, dropping the “MGM” name from the brand. But unlike much of what has been anticipated in Disney-gossip circles, the new name will contain neither Pixar nor ABC.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will debut in January, Disney World officials announced today.
“The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer — in music, television, movies and theater,” Disney World President Meg Crofton stated in a news release.

It’s been rumoured for a long time that a name change would take place for the studios, but I’m not sure if I like it.
Although I’m not against the idea for a name change, I just think Disney’s Pixar Studios would have been better suited – especially with the renaming of Mickey Avenue to Pixar Place. I’ve started a new poll about this so let me know what you think!

Disney Stops Ratatouille Wine Promotion
For Disney Pixar’s newest film release, Disney were going to be releasing a lot of unusual merchandise to go along with the film. Largely kitchen equipment, along with food & drink in order to tie in with the theme of the film.
However, it looks like the idea of having Ratatouille branded wine has already been dropped.

Walt Disney in Talks With Mobile Carriers
Disney seems to be using mobile technology more and more, including bringing in uses for some portable games systems into the theme parks.

Haunted Mansion Updates
Some exciting information is beginning to materialize regarding the currently in-progress Haunted Mansion refurbishment. Besides upgrades to the audio, lighting and special effects systems, the floating Madame Leota head and the Haunted Bride from Disneyland will both be installed, and best of all, they have both been improved on since the Disneyland installation. Another great addition to the mansion will be a completely new scene, taking place in the former spider scene. It’s an all new multiple staircase scene, unique to Florida’s mansion. There will also be other additions throughout the attraction scenes, including new props.
The new improved Haunted Mansion is set to open in September 2007. Don’t expect it to reopen early though, as the timescales are apparently very tight to get everything completed.
This is a follow up story to the previous news about the haunted mansion closing.
It’s nice to hear that the Disney World version will be getting some of the popular updates from the Disneyland Hanuted Manion, however, I am still disappointed not to see a mention of the happy holidays overlay. I think this would be a really cool addition for the Disney World park, but I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see whether it’s added on.
Some new scenes could be interesting too, and although I won’t get a chance to see them first hand for a while, I look forward to seeing the videos and photos of them as they appear on the internet after the mansion has been re-opened.
