Intoducing the Nintendo Wii – pronounced ‘we’
Does it sound any better than the revolution? I’ll leave you to decide – but it will get some getting used to! Although when Microsoft renamed the new OS from longhorn to Vista, it did not take the industry too long to adapt, I have a feeling Wii may be a bit different. It’s not your typical every day word, but maybe Nintendo want to be different

The new Alton Towers ride ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ opened just over two weeks ago.
Problems started from the beginning with one of the elevators not working correctly and the opening being delayed until 1pm – but what have people’s views on the ride been?

BitTorrent’s efficient use of broadband connections has hugely increased the amount of traffic going across the net, because it runs all users’ net connections flat out to deliver huge files. Recent estimates say that around a third of all internet traffic is based around BitTorrent. Some internet service providers think this is unacceptable.
Recently BT began clamping down on so-called “broadband hogs”, by starting to enforce a 40GB monthly limit.

Google have now released their long awaited calendar. The calendar is in a simialr interface to gmail, which is why it will share many similar features. Being a google product it is obviously still in beta but can be found at http://www.google.com/calendar.

With .eu domains being released today (Friday 7th), people rushed to purchase the domain they wanted.
The registration became open to the public after a 4 month period where firms could reserve domains which linked to their trademarks.
By late afternoon 236,573 registrations had been made by british registrants, with Germany leading with 237,928 registrations.
There were many people and companies after the same domain, with them being given on a first come first served basis is the end.
It looks like it could lead to a lot of trading in domains and some people profiting quite a bit.

The high street store Dixons has decide to move purely to an online business.
A couple of year ago Dixons closed a lot of money loosing stores, but has now decided it can make more money online and save about £3m a year.
The Dixons stores on the high street will be rebranded to “Currys.Digital”

Asda are trying out a pilot scheme within a limited area inside London, where shoppers will no longer be allowed to pay using cheques.
The move comes as only 6% of retail spending is from cheques. Asda hopes that the removal of cheques will help speed up queing times which are often slowed by someone having to take time to write a cheque.
