AOL Video has decided to spread some holiday cheer by giving away over 30 free movie downloads for one day only on Saturday.
Several of the titles are, appropriately, Christmas movies such as National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Jack Frost, but there will be some non-spirited ones available such as Spiderman 2 as well. The free offering begins at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time and customers are limited to one movie per person, but not one per computer.
Normally, movie downloads from AOL Video are priced from $9.99 to $19.99 per title. We reviewed AOL Video in October and found it to be lacking in selection and high in price compared to the other movie downloading services. But on Saturday, we would argue that it will be one of the better ones. After all, who can argue with free?

Maths is often seen as the boring subject at school, but there
’s no reason why it should be.
The images within this article show how some people bored with maths may answer some questions. Could this be modern mathematics?

Last month we asked you for questions for the makers of Warhammer Online. The tone of the response made it obvious that many readers were concerned about where the company was taking the Warhammer world. Their responses should, at least somewhat, put those of you frustrated by what you’ve seen so far at ease. The makers of the upcoming MMOG from Mythic have responded with detail and good humour to the insightful queries you put to them. They were also considerate enough to label their responses, so you know exactly who has answered each question. So, please, read on for the responses from Mythic’s Warhammer Online team.

“PLEASE FIX SL” is the message floating in air over Yongnam and Walden sims at 299 meters – the highest altitude where objects will appear on the Second Life metaverse world map. When I investigated the floating prims, I found they belong to Bibi Book – a kindly witch who specializes in building in SL. Like many residents with more than a few weeks of experience with SL, Ms. Book is less than pleased with the current state of the world, and is very willing to talk about a number of problems that never seem to be addressed by the Linden game gods.

Ofcom is legalising the use of FM transmitters that allow iPods and other MP3 players to play through car radios. The use of devices, such as Griffin’s “iTrip”, was banned in the UK as their transmissions can interfere with broadcasts by legal radio stations.

How long does it take to drop a ring in a volcano? If you’re Peter Jackson, self-appointed keeper of the JRR Tolkien flame and New Zealand’s most ubiquitous export after lamb cutlets and rugby players, we’re talking 11 hours.
Yes, that’s how long it’ll take you to watch all three sections of his relentlessly drawn-out, drearily repetitive saga back to back in its most recent form – though having already released one “Special Extended Edition” on DVD, we wouldn’t be surprised if the then-tubby Kiwi helmer has another couple of hours squirrelled away, ready to be foisted on his gullible acolytes the next time he’s short of a billion.

Ron Hovsepian, Novell’s CEO, has posted an open letter to the Community, where he explicitly states Novell’s disagreement with Steve Ballmer’s claims of Linux infringing on Microsoft’s intellectual property.
From the Letter:
‘We disagree with the recent statements made by Microsoft on the topic of Linux and patents. Importantly, our agreement with Microsoft is in no way an acknowledgment that Linux infringes upon any Microsoft intellectual property. When we entered the patent cooperation agreement with Microsoft, Novell did not agree or admit that Linux or any other Novell offering violates Microsoft patents.’
