I know deal or no deal has somehow been a popular TV show, but is an arcade game just taking it too far?

From the sounds of the video, this guy was just having an unlucky game, but I wonder how ‘rigged’ the arcade machine actually is. I’d imagine it will give a lot more low amounts out than high amounts, but I suppose this could be said for a lot of arcade machines.
This game requires no skill and is base purely on luck and on what the odds are as set by the computer.
Thanks to the article on Distant Creations for first drawing this to my attention.

JUST now, the hottest startup in Silicon Valley — minutely examined by bloggers, panted after by investors — is Pownce, but only a chosen few can try out its Web site.
Kevin Rose, the co-founder and chief architect of Digg, a hugely popular news site, announced in late June the introduction of Pownce, a social-networking service that combines messaging with file-sharing. Mr. Rose immediately endowed his latest venture with some mystique by declaring that, for the time being, only those with invitations would be permitted to test his new site.
Within days, invitations were selling on eBay for as much as $10. Mr. Rose has declined all requests to be interviewed about the service, including my own. But as a consolation, he sent me a coveted invitation. I enjoyed the rare thrill of cyberhipness — and got to experiment with the site.
A Social-Networking Service With a Velvet Rope – New York Times
I’ve managed to get an invite into Pownce and although it looks and works quite nicely, I can’t find much use for it yet.
Unless you have friends on their, all of the sharing capabilities are pretty much useless, apart from perhaps public messages – which I was able to do before in Twitter or Jaiku anyway.
So to make it useful for me, I need to get friends to use it. Easier said than done. I could invite the first 6, then count on them inviting more people etc. However, the majority of my friends are not people into the Web 2.0 trend. The likeliness of them joining pownce is very low, especially as most of them already have facebook, myspace & bebo and they’re happy on them. In fact I already hear complaints that they’re using too many of these services, which makes me question – how much room is there in the mainstream market for another social network?

“At last, someone has developed a patch to allow the Apple TV’s storage capacity to be expanded using the USB port, using its internal hard drive to boot and one fat external USB 2.0 2 terabytes drive to store as many TV series, photos and whatever else as you want.”
It was said it would be only a matter of time until this became available so that the USB port became useful. What we need to wait and see is whether Apple develops a patch either to work against this one, or to build in the option to use the USB port themselves.

For Disney Pixar’s newest film release, Disney were going to be releasing a lot of unusual merchandise to go along with the film. Largely kitchen equipment, along with food & drink in order to tie in with the theme of the film.
However, it looks like the idea of having Ratatouille branded wine has already been dropped.

We decided to go to it the next day. The sand is only their at low tide & it obviously isn’t known by many other people as only the people I was with and another family were on there.

Disney seems to be using mobile technology more and more, including bringing in uses for some portable games systems into the theme parks.

The BBC’s flagship online TV service is being launched, offering viewers the chance to download their favourite programmes from the last seven days.
For director general Mark Thompson, the launch of iPlayer is as big a milestone as the arrival of colour TV.
But others have questioned how technically reliable it will be and whether it is late to a crowded market.
At launch, a fixed number of people will be able to sign up, with the numbers increasing throughout the year.
The iPlayer allows viewers to download a selection of programmes from the last seven days and watch them for up to 30 days afterwards.

This is the service I’ve been waiting for, for quite a while now. I’ve signed up and can’t wait to gain access to the service. I’ll be sure to blog about here once I have!

With a large amount of dust storms on Mars, scientists are worried that it could cause problems for the Rovers on Mars who use sunlight via solar panels to power themselves. These dust storms could potentially block out the light required to power them and keep them warm.
