Bug – Send in The Drone
What’s the first thing that occurs to you when you think of a bug? A small pest that seems to get everywhere? How about something that gets under your skin? That’s what bug movie is about.
Bug is a psychological thriller from Lionsgate.
Following is the trailer:
Bug is set in a motel room where Agnes, a lonely waitress, lives in fear of lives in fear of her violent ex-husband Jerry Goss, who has been let out of jail.
Agnes soon falls in love with Peter, an eccentric, nervous drifter who is contending with an apparent infestation of parasites and insects.
First they send in their drone… then they find their queen.
The trailer itself looks very cool, without giving too much away, however, the thing that’s most caught my attention so far is the one cinema poster:
Although simple, the use of black and white makes the bug one the poster look very cool whilst encompassing an image of Agnes. The large black bug helps the poster stand out and catch my eye.
The other poster I also like how the one faces falls within the other – almost like the bugs which are supposedly inside the characters within the film.
At the 2006 Cannes Festival film critic Roger Ebert wrote:
The film has caused a stir at Cannes, not least because its stars, Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon, achieve a kind of manic intensity that’s frightening not just in itself but because you fear for the actors.
What I like about this film is that it doesn’t seem to be full of hacking and slashing and blood to create the horror, instead it’s more psychological, which can be a lot more frightening. It also looks like the movie will need some thinking about – something I like as it brings you into the film more. When the film cam out in France, it drew a lot of praise and there have been a lot of positive comments from critics in the US. As a result, I can’t wait to see it.
