Photo: Comeplay Ice Sculpture

This wek’s photos is mainly a discussion starter, rather than a fantastic photo. The photo is of an ice sculpture which was present at one of the Comeplay clubbing nights in Elements at The University of Bath.
The sculpture itself was completely made of ice, with some LEDs in the base adding some lighting to it. Through the sculpture was a small pipe forming a luge which shots were poured down for people to drink as it came out the other end.
Now this looks pretty good and on the night it gives punters there something to do, but does something like this sell the night to attract punters in?
I don’t know the exact figure but it cost a few hundred pounds for this sculpture. Would it have returned that much extra business? I don’t think so.
I think it is even less likely when it is at a club night on a university campus, which usually sells out and attracts a pretty large audience. I can’t see many students going:
“I’m not interested in going…”
“Wait – There’s an ice sculpture??? I’m there!”
How about the free (watered down) shots they were giving away by pouring down it? Maybe – but these would have the same effect without the ice sculpture.
So my question is – why spend a few hundred pounds (of what is profit) on something like this?
