The mess of cables behind my TV

The mess of cables behind my TV

So over the last few weeks I’ve been getting my new room all set up and everything plugged in. With the final part being the installation of Virgin Media today, so I now have broadband and TV in my room.

However, it has occurred to me how many electrical items I have – enhanced by the number of 4 ways I seem to have been buying recently and the mess of cables that now exists behind my TV.

This may not be an exciting blog post, but this is the current state of all the plugs in my room, going clockwise from the door:

Twin Socket (1)

  • Shaver Charger
  • Empty – Usually used for Iron

Twin Socket (2)

  • Empty
  • 4 Way
    • iPod Charger
    • Nokia Charger
    • Bedside Light
    • Alarm Clock

Twin Socket (3)

  • 4 Way
    • Creative Speakers (Laptop plugs into)
    • TV (Sony Trinitron)
    • Nintendo Wii
    • 4 Way
      • Virgin Media Modem
      • Virgin Media TV Box
      • Netgear Wireless Router
      • Empty
  • 4 Way
    • Camera Charger (For my Kodak Easyshare M883)
    • Laptop Charger (Dell Studio)
    • Empty – Reserved for Work Laptop
    • Empty – Reserved for Work Mobile Phone Charger

Twin Socket (4)

  • 4 Way
    • Monitor (Second Monitor for my laptop)
    • Printer (HP Deskjet F2180)
    • Shredder
    • Empty
  • Random Plug (goes somewhere in the house – god knows where!)

Plus I have a selection of other things which I just have to plug into one of the few empty sockets I have!

I’d be interested to see how much electricity I’m getting through, but there’s no easy way of doing it that I can think of. One thing that has been saving me though:

The 4-Way
