Hollywood Tower Hotel

This is one of my favourite things to take photos of at The Studios, mainly because it is fairly easy to get an awesome looking shot of the tower coming out of the nearby foliage.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t master a photo of it at night – I was generally let down by my camera. I’m hoping to be able to return at some point when I will hopefully have a better camera!

Worcester Night Sky

This is one of those photos I’ve taken that has made me wish I had a better quality camera. By the time it has been touched up a little, it just turns the photo quite grainy.

What got me to take this photo though was the colours present in the sky and how the tree line became silhouetted against it.

This week’s photo was taken at my recent trip to Alton Towers and is of Air

This was taken towards the end of the day (we got on the last but one car before closing). What I like about the Air queue is how close to the track you can get – you could almost touch some of the cars as they went past.

Being a coaster which puts you into a ‘flying position’ it does mean you get the unusual views of people lying on their back which this photo pictures quite well.

Oblivion at Alton Towers - About to go up the lift hill

The photo above was taken whilst walking along the queue to get on Oblivion itself. It’s one of those views that you don’t see very often, but looks very impressive with the climb up the hill that the car has to go.

What always strikes me about Oblivion is how large the track is and wide the cars are, causing the rollercoaster to stand out from it’s background surroundings. Through in the easily recognisable noise as it goes up the lift hill and I can’t wait to get on it.

As you can see, we were very lucky with the weather on our trip to Alton Towers, having a pretty much clear blue sky the entire day – sun cream was a must!

I have got a series of photos of Oblivion with the car in different places of the track, taken from different parts of the queue. Read more to see them all.

(You may have noticed I cheated and took photos of different cars to get the different positions)

View Towards The Lake From Level 5 of the Library - University of Bath

Despite being at the University of Bath for 2 years, it is the first time I had been outside on Level 5 of the library and was therefore the first time I’d seen this view – which I thought was pretty good! I think it was certainly helped by the good weather we were having that day – certainly made rigging for the Summer Ball more enjoyable.

This weeks photo was taken in a field, near to where I used to live in Lower Broadheath, Worcester.

The photo itself is very simple and is just of the crop growing in one of the fields where we walked our dog.

I think the thing I like about this photo is the green of the crop, contrasted with the light blue sky – and a fairly clear sky at that!

I keep meaning to use the photo as a background to something – not necessarily a deskptop background, but a website or something like that. As of yet I haven’t.

Along with this photo, I also took a couple of photos of my dog, Biscuit, who is a golden retriever in the fields. The first of these photos is one of my most viewed photos on Flickr.

This weeks photo is a slightly different style photo. It was taken on my phone (I forgot my digital camera this day – doh!) and is of the stage set up ready for The Automatic’s performance in Elements at the University of Bath

The Automatic Stage Set Up - Elements, Bath University

The thing I found most amazing was how much we fitted on such a small stage.

To say our standard set up in Elements isn’t that large would be an understatement. To fit The Automatic on their, with all their equipment, plus that of support acts etc. was nothing short of a miracle.

Although a big (ish) named band, they did struggle to get a crowd. Their performance at the University of Bath was part of the uLive tour which goes round a number of Students’ Unions in the UK. Apparently we weren’t even the smallest venue on the tour.

I believe only a few over 100 people came to see them in the end, which was surprising considering they’d had a number of hits – tickets weren’t even too expensive at only about £12. I think it perhaps came down to timing, with a lot of people starting to become busy with coursework at that time in the semester. That said, live music seems to struggle at the University of Bath in general.

Overall it was a good set, I certainly enjoyed it (it was one of the few uLive gigs I’ve hung around to watch this year) – a shame more people didn’t see it really as it won’t help us towards getting big acts in future.

We’ve had a few on uLive tours since then – The Twang & The King Blues for example. Next up though is The Wombats for the summer ball in a couple of weeks. A bigger stage this time and a much bigger crowd!

This weeks photo is almost three years old. It was taken on my trip to London in July 2006, where I was invited down for the awards ceremony for Oracle’s Thinkquest Awards. It was the first time a team from the UK had completed an entry into the international competition so we’d been invited down to Oracle’s offices.

The photo has had a minor bit of editing applied to it to hide some blemishes that were present in the original. I do wish, however, that I had a higher quality camera when I took this photo as I’m quite a fan of it. Although the picture was my computer desktop background for a while, I am yet to have a copy printed to put on my wall.

I think what I like about this photo are the colours within it, particularly the blues within the sky causing the eye itself to stand out.
